Manifesting Your Best Self: How to Create a Vision Board for a Healthier New Year

The beginning of a New Year is often a time to reflect on the past year and think about the year ahead. For many, it’s a time to set resolutions and make goals, and sometimes this may feel a little overwhelming. Creating a vision board can be a way to help you visualize your dreams, and enjoy the process instead of feeling the sense of pressure that can come with setting goals.

What Is a Vision Board?

A vision board is a physical or digital collage made up of images, words, and quotes that represent your goals, dreams, and aspirations. The idea is that by visualizing your goals, hopes and dreams you can manifest them into reality. The process of creating a vision board is a fun and creative activity that helps bring clarity to your goals, and in doing so, it taps into the law of attraction, focusing your energy on positive intentions. I, personally, prefer the physical act of creating a collage on a board, but a digital version that you can print out and have the visual reminders often will work just as well!

How to Make Your Vision Board for the New Year

1. Gather Supplies: Collect magazines, printouts, quotes, scissors, glue, or a digital tool like Pinterest or Canva if you're making a digital version.

2. Reflect on Your Goals: Spend some time thinking about what you want to manifest in the coming year. Focus on your personal, professional, and emotional well-being.

3. Choose Images and Words: Select images and words that resonate with your goals. look for things that inspire you and make you feel excited.

4. Arrange and Glue/Pin: Arrange your images and words on a board, poster, or digital canvas. Once you're happy with the layout, glue or pin everything in place.

5. Display Your Board: Put your vision board somewhere you’ll see it every day, like on your wall, next to your desk, or as your desktop wallpaper.

Emotional/Mental Benefits of Vision Boarding

While the concept of vision boards is rooted in the power of manifestation, it's also deeply connected to mental health. Here's how creating and using a vision board can help improve your emotional well-being as you start the new year.

1. Clarity and Focus: Creating a vision board can help bring clarity to your goals by providing the opportunity to really sit and think about what you want to manifest, finding a visual representation, and creating a focal point. Creating this clarity helps with motivation and can also help reduce stress and anxiety by creating a roadmap to follow instead of feeling lost and overwhelmed.

2. Boosting Positive Thinking: Creating a vision board is a way of consciously choosing to focus on the things that bring you joy, peace, and fulfillment. As you choose images that represent your goals, hopes and dreams, you allow positive emotions to surface and create reminders for what is possible in your life. This can help improve overall mental well-being by shifting your mindset from one of scarcity or doubt to one of abundance and possibility.

3. Sense of Control: One of the biggest challenges for those with mental health struggles, suchas depression or anxiety, is a feeling of powerlessness or lack of direction. Vision boards are a great way to combat this by actively creating a visual representation of your goals and getting the sense that you can take control of your future. This simple act of creation can foster a sense of agency and empowerment. You may become motivated to begin researching that new career making healthier choices, or practicing self-care. Motivation grows when you're able to clearly see the rewards of your efforts.

4. A Reminder of Self-Worth and Self-Care: In a world where we often prioritize others over ourselves, vision boards can serve as a visual reminder that YOU matter. As you create your vision board, you take the time to think about your own wants, needs and well-being, which canfoster the feeling of self-love and improve overall- mental health. This can be encouragement to set boundaries, focus on self-care and find balance in all areas of your life.

5. Creating a Sense of Community and Connection: Creating vision boards with friends or family can be a great way to connect with others and create a sense of community around sharing dreams and goals you wish to manifest. Being part of a group that is focused on growth and positivity can help reduce feelings of isolation, which can be common among those struggling with mental health issues.

6. Celebrating Progress and Resilience: A vision board is an amazing tool for setting goals, and it’s also a great way to track your progress. Looking back at your vision board throughoutthe year can serve as a reminder to keep working towards your goals and provide a way to reflect on how far you have come. At the end of the year you can likely look back and tick off some things on your list, carry some things over to the next year and identify new dreams and goals that have come up along the way. It serves as a visual representation of a commitment to growth and improvement.
